Folkestone manager Neil Cugley wants his players to make up for their lacklustre exit from the FA Cup when they take on Met Police in the FA Trophy first qualifying round on Saturday.

Buoyed by his side’s excellent 4-0 win at Merstham last weekend, Cugley (pictured) said: "We never got going when we lost 3-0 to Whitehawk in the FA Cup (last month). It was a real damp squib and we’ll need to be a lot more positive against Met Police who are a good side."

Cugley, whose team were also in cup action last night (Wednesday) against Horsham in The Alan Boon Cup, admitted that in the victory over Merstham, everything went right for his side

He said: "With Richard Atkins fit again, I was able to play three up front and I thought it worked well. Keeping a clean sheet away from home is always good and what was also nice was that six of the team had progressed through our junior sides."

With Simon Austin feeling unwell earlier this week, Cugley was considering playing defender Frankie Chappell in attack against Horsham.

Austin should be fit to return against Met Police, who are ninth in the Ryman League Premier Division.

The three points against Merstham lifted Invicta third in Ryman League Division 1 South but cup football is their main focus at the moment. Depending on how other results go, Folkestone will be away to Faversham in the Kent Senior Cup first round on Tuesday.

The game would be a good opportunity for Stuart King to begin his comeback after a recent operation to repair damaged tendons in his arm.
