A naked man tried to buy a bottle of vodka from a supermarket in a bizarre prank early today.

But what started out as a joke almost ended in arrest for the young streaker at Sainsbury's in Ashford.

Police were called to the Simone Weil Avenue store after a man aged between 20 and 25 had been thrown out.

Deputy store manager Jamie Curtis said: "We realise this was meant to be a bit of fun, but to avoid any embarrassment we asked the young man to leave the store straight away.

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said the streak involved a group of young men staying at the nearby Ashford International Hotel.

It is believed the man responsible had been dared by his friends to undertake the naked shopping attempt.

Kent Police said officers were called to the store at about 4.20am, but no offence was recorded.
