A charity that supports people with multiple sclerosis has been shortlisted to win a brand new home, potentially worth £500,000 in funding.

Persimmon Homes are giving the house, worth £250,000, to one lucky charity in celebration of their 40th anniversary.

Ashford businessman Frank Brake is matching all funds raised by the Kent Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (KMSTC) between now and the end of 2013, doubling the potential value to the group.

The pledge comes as part of the centre’s ongoing Butterfly appeal, which has been set up to raise over £1.3m for a new treatment facility (pictured above) on the outskirts of Canterbury.

So far, the group has raised over £500,000, and if successful, would be well on their way to meeting their target.

The centre has been shortlisted to receive the building out of 3,500 good causes across the country, and has now joined the final list, along with 23 other charities.

Success depends on the number of votes each receives between now and September 20.

Mary Daly, 43, from Kennington, in Ashford - herself an MS sufferer - is championing the appeal.

She said: “If the centre is the lucky winner we shall sell the house for £250,000 and the proceeds will be doubled by our wonderful patron, Frank Brake.

“The £500,000 will be put towards our new building appeal and will bring our total to almost £1m.

“This will mean that MS patients across Kent will be enjoying the benefits of a much needed new Centre far sooner than we anticipated.

“Voting is free of charge, takes around one minute and could not be simpler. Each person is allowed to vote every 24 hours.”

The winning charity will be announced on September 27.
