Lorry left in sliproad carriageway, engine running, at Junction 10 near Ashford while driver pops to Tesco

A lorry driver decided to leave his HGV ticking over on the carriageway at a busy motorway junction while he popped to Tesco.

The articulated lorry was left in the middle of the on slip coast-bound at junction 10 near Ashford.

Shocked traffic police discovered the abandoned vehicle with its engine running but, on trying the door, found it locked.

The officers waited with the lorry for about 15 minutes while the driver, who had walked to the nearby Tesco, finished his shopping.

That particular grocery trip cost him more than he bargained for - the driver was fined £150 and received points on his licence for parking in a dangerous location.

Police say lorries have previously been left on the hard shoulder near the supermarket, which has no parking for HGVs.
