Ashford's Leon Camier was left to rue persistent tyre problems after he failed to complete race two in the sixth round of the World Superbike Championship at Kyalami.

The 23-year-old was one of a number of riders to suffer on the South African circuit but battled valiantly to qualify in eighth place.

Camier (pictured) further improved on that, finishing sixth in race one as Italian Michel Fabrizio led from start to finish to take victory.

However the Aprilia Alitalia rider suffered heartache in race two when just four laps in his tyres started to buckle and he was forced to retire 13 laps later.

Championship leader Leon Haslam widened his gap at the top after topping the podium in race two as Camier admitted he was less than fond of the Kyalami circuit.

"The track was so bumpy and slippery that it took a lot learning during free practice and qualifying," said Camier – who sits 10th in the standings with 82 points, 140 behind fellow Brit Haslam.

"I only used one set of tyres during the very first morning we got here and I was pretty happy – but it got harder the more the weekend went on.

"We made some changes which didn’t seem to work and we tried our hardest to get a decent setting for qualifying and the two races.

"I had to really concentrate on learning the circuit – and I felt I did – but it was hard with the problems we were having with the tyres."

World Superbike Championship races will be broadcast on Eurosport, with the European rounds also available in High Definition on Eurosport Sky 410 and Virgin Media 521 while Eurosport HD is on Sky 412 and Virgin Media 522.
