The crews were sent out to a home in Morgan Close, Willesborough, Ashford, just after 1pm today.

They tackled the blaze with a hose reel jet.

The kitchen ended up with smoke damage and the machine was wrecked by the flames.

Two fire engines were called out and crews were at the scene for 35 minutes.

There were no reported injuries but Kent Fire and Rescue Service says the incident was thought to be because of an excessive build up of materials in the appliance.

It warns householders, to prevent such fires, to note the following:

Always clean your tumble dryer filters regularly - the fluff that builds up can catch fire if not removed

Some items are not appropriate or the wrong size for tumble drying – check the manufacturers’ instructions particularly if you’re drying quilts or sleeping bags.

Never leave your tumble dryer running overnight or while you're out of the house.
