Hythe Town manager Scott Porter says his team will need to show their mean streak against Whitehawk

HytheTown manager Scott Porter says his team must show their "horrible" side if they are to take anything from Saturday’s trip to high-flying Whitehawk.

The East Sussex club, tipped by many to challenge for the Ryman League, Division 1 South title this season, are unbeaten at home and start the game as favourites.

However, Hythe’s narrow FA Trophy defeat at Bury Town last weekend showed Porter’s men are prepared to battle against more illustrious opponents and the manager has called for more of the same at the Enclosed Ground.

Porter (pictured) said: "I watched them at Folkestone and they’re a decent side. They’ve got quick wingers and look to get the ball out early so we’ll have to stop them doing that. It will be a tough game but my boys always rise to the big games.

"We need to be in the game for certain periods, we can’t concede early and we’ve got to stop them playing. We’ve got to frustrate them, we’ve got to be horrible and upset them – we’re quite good at that."

Victory at Whitehawk could lift Hythe as high as eighth, although Porter will have to wait until next Saturday’s game at home to Walton & Hersham before welcoming Brendon Cass, Aaron Lacy and Tom Parkinson back from injury.

Pat Kingwell is also a doubt for the trip to East Sussex after injuring his calf in midweek.
