Hunt for con gang who pushed over pensioner

An elderly lady was pushed over by a gang of three men after she opened her front door to them.

Detectives are now seeking help from the public following the burglary in Mortimer Close, South Ashford.

The 85-year-old woman answered her door to three men banging on it who claimed they needed to check her water supply as there was an emergency. They pushed her over, searched her home and stole her purse containing a small quantity of cash before leaving on the evening of Tuesday, April 22.

One of the men is described as white, aged 40-50, 5ft 7ins tall, medium build with brown hair and wearing a khaki top or jacket. He spoke with a southern accent and his clothing is described as dirty and his hair untidy.

The e-fit shows the man police are seeking.

Officers are possibly linking this burglary to a similar incident, which happened on the same evening in Sir John Moore Avenue, Hythe.

There an 80-year-old woman was at her home when a man forced his way through her front door. She shouted at him and he ran out of the building where he was joined by two other men, and all three drove off.

That man is described as white with heavy stubble, a rugged complexion and short dark hair. He was wearing a jacket or anorak with a light coloured top underneath.

Police would like to speak to anyone who recognises the e-fit or has information on either incident.

They should contact South Kent police on 01303 289180 or the Crimestoppers Hotline on 0800 555 111.
