When five-year-old Summer Longman saw children who had lost their hair due to treatment for leukemia, she decided she wanted to help.

So she immediately volunteered to have her own hair cut off to make wigs for them.

Summer, from Ashford, was watching Children in Need with grandmother Gill Longman when she made her amazing offer.

Gill said: "Summer has very long blond hair. When she saw the children on the programme had no hair, she asked why.

"We explained and there and then she decided to have her hair cut and donate her golden locks to little girls who are suffering with cancer or leukaemia and have lost their’s.

"Summer’s hair will be made into wigs for them."

Gill, a lecturer at Ashford College enlisted the help of her Hair Design colleagues to help her granddaughter's wish come true.

Yesterday she came to the college with her mum, Leanne Goodchild, and dad Baz.

As well as donating hair, Summer has raised more than £700 for the Little Princess Trust, a charity that will look after her tresses, and see they are turned into wigs.

Gill said: "Summer always used to joke with her Grandad who’s lost some of his hair that she could put some of her’s on his head. Now she really is going to give her hair to someone who has none."
