Manager Neil Cugley is relieved Folkestone’s Ryman League Premier Division season is up and running, thanks to Monday night’s 1-1 draw at Aveley.

After Saturday’s 2-0 opening day defeat by Croydon Athletic, Cugley feared Invicta suffering a run of defeats which would have seriously undermined his young side’s confidence as they try to acclimatise to life in a higher division.

But Paul Jones’s second-half equaliser earned Invicta a point at Aveley and Cugley said: "It’s good to get off the mark because with a young side like ours, they can start to feel the pressure if they lose the opening three or four games.

"We’ve got two tough matches coming up and if we were going into them with two defeats, it would have made them even harder but they can relax a bit now."

Cugley added: "Sutton and Tonbridge will both be pushing for play-off places this season, so these games will be a good test of character."
