Linda's Florist in Ashford's Lower High Street to close its doors

A florist is leaving Ashford town centre after almost 30 years, with a renewed focus on its delivery service.

Linda's Florist began as a stall in the then-Tufton Centre before moving into a long-term home in 50 Lower High Street, where it has remained for two decades.

Now owner Linda Alexander will be fully relocating to her unit on the Henwood Industrial Estate from Wednesday, September 30, which currently houses the arranging and delivery process.

Mrs Alexander said: "The lease ended and we were going to renew it, but because of what's happened with Covid and footfall we decided against it.

"In lockdown, we found we were doing a lot more business through our website and phone and so that made our mind up that this is the way forward."

Prospective buyers can also use the Interflora delivery service or simply walk into the unit to order from Linda's Florist.

Mrs Alexander added: "It's much better because in the high street shop, at the moment you can only have one customer in at a time.

"At Henwood people can come, stay socially distanced, sit down and discuss an order without being rushed."

She thanked customers for their loyalty over the decades and hoped customers will continue to use their service.

Yesterday, the Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe next to Linda's Florist in the Lower High Street shut its doors for good.
