Fire crews warn people to sweep chimneys after blaze at Appledore, Ashford

Firefighters are reminding people to have their chimneys swept regularly after attending a blaze yesterday.

Two fire engines and a height vehicle were called to a property at The Street, Appledore.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus dealt with the incident with hose reel jets and a fog spike.

No casualties were reported.

Firefighters were at the scene for four hours.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is now. reminding everyone to reduce the risk of a fire in their chimney by having it swept and cleared of debris regularly.

A spokesman said: "If you burn logs you should have this done at least twice a year. If you burn coal you should have it done at least once a year."
