Firefighters battle house fire at Bell Lane, Smarden for eight hours

Firefighters spent more than eight hours battling a house fire.

The flames spread though the roof and first floor of the property in Bell Lane, Smarden.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were first called to the blaze at 7.20am.

A KFRS spokesman said: "At the height of the fire, six fire engines, a height vehicle and a bulk water carrier were all in attendance."

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used compressed air foam, hose reel jets, and water from a local hydrant to take on the flames.

No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

KFRS crews left the scene at 3.20pm and police and the brigade's Volunteer Response team had also attended.
