Ashford: Firefighters tackle hob fire at house in Rectory Way, Kennington

Firefighters tackled a fire at a home in Ashford after a hob was accidentally left on.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a property in Rectory Way, Kennington, just before 9.25pm yesterday.

It is thought the blaze was caused by the hob being left on, which then set fire to cardboard that had been left on top of the stove.

Fire crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames, and there were no reported injuries.

The fire service said it encourages people to never leave things stored on top of, or near to cookers, hobs or Aga-style stoves because of the fire risk.
