Strong winds will continue throughout the morning across the Ashford area

With gale force winds continuing to batter the county, Kent Police is advising people to be extra careful when venturing out this morning.

Officers are urging the public to be very cautious as the high winds will remain for the next few hours at least.

Police say the severe gales will sweep the county until mid morning with coastal and elevated areas the most affected.

Those planning to travel are advised to do so only if it is necessary and to be extra careful in the event of treacherous road conditions.

Train services are delayed while rail companies carry out checks for fallen trees on the lines.

Police and partner agencies have been dealing with numerous weather related incidents.

Trees have fallen on the A28, Bethersden; the A259. Old Romney; Cole Farm, Folkestone; and Dymchurch Road, Hythe.
