Police sealed off a road after a car crash in which a man in his 80s died.

The elderly man was driving a car, which hit a fence behind the Tesco Express store at Mill Court, Ashford.

The incident was at about 11.50am on Friday.

South Kent Police spokesman Jon Green said: “The driver, a local man aged in his 80s, was taken to the William Harvey Hospital where he sadly died that afternoon.”

kmfm breakfast presenter John Webster, who was at the scene, said: “I saw a small red car hit the kerb and it appeared a man was slumped inside. A queue of traffic built up behind the car.

“About four or five staff from a nearby doctor’s surgery came out to try to aid him.”

Police were at the scene well into Friday afternoon as investigations continued.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident and witnesses are asked to contact police on 01622 798538.
