Pictures following the incident show a white car with its driver door completely smashed in.

A barrier from a pedestrian crossing has also been damaged.

A spokesperson for police said officers were called to the road following a collision involving two vehicles.

“Damage was also caused to a set of traffic lights that are in the process of being replaced,” they said.

The road was partially blocked and there was slow traffic as a result of the incident, with a passerby telling KentOnline there were “huge tailbacks”.

Ambulance crews also attended and one person was taken to the William Harvey Hospital for further checks.

The A2070 has recently undergone major changes, which has seen the former roundabout removed and replaced with four-way traffic lights.

The work was meant to take six months but has ended up taking almost a year.

While the majority of the work will end this month, National Highways has confirmed the whole scheme is now set to end on May 15, just over a year after the project started.
