A man who died after his car hit two women on the Esplanade in Sandgate has been named

Nicholas Carter, 57, of Studfall Close, Hythe, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were called to the area at 9.40am on Tuesday December 4 after it was said Mr Carter's car had hit the women.

A 67-year-old local woman was flown to the Kings College Hospital in London, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

The second woman, aged 51, remains at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, where she is still being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

An inquest into the man’s death is due to open tomorrow in Folkestone.
