A new wooden cross is due to erected on the roof of an Ashford church on Saturday.

The new cross was meant to be put up at the St Francis Church in Cryol Road, South Ashford last weekend after the previous cross, which had been in place for 50 years, fell apart.

But removing the remains of the old cross and fitting the new one proved more difficult than expected.

So a second attempt will be made this Saturday.
