A cyclist says filthy road furniture in Canterbury Road, Ashford poses a danger to pedestrians

A road safety campaigner is calling for "unsafe" traffic bollards in Canterbury Road, Ashford to be cleaned.

Ted Prangnell from Kennington, a keen cyclist, says the dirt-encrusted bollards pose a danger for pedestrians and are so grimy that can't be seen by motorists after dark.

Mr Prangnell said: "The road-islands on Canterbury Road (A28) near the M20 could do with a good tidy up.

"The middle one of the three, which has a dropped kerb, is far too small to safely accommodate a buggy, or a wheelchair.

"That same middle one has had its lamp-post demolished. Just imagine being on that refuge when this happened.

"They are so dirty that they may not be easily seen in the dark. We need more pedestrian crossings. Let’s put people first."

Mr Prangnell, a member of the Roadpeace group, has regularly called for dirty road signs across Ashford to be cleaned.

He has also highlighted the problem with direction signs being turned round by vandals which can send walkers and cyclists off in the wrong direction.
