Beauty's Miss Universe dream ends

A STUDENT has missed out in her bid to become Miss Universe.

Shamiso Burt, 18, a former Miss Ashford, was one of 39 UK finalists in the Miss Universe pageant.

Shamiso - an A-level student at the Towers School, Kennington - appeared in the contest held at the Café de Paris, Leicester Square, London.

The panel of judges, which included Arsenal players Bacary Sagna and Justin Hoyte and Kemal Shahin of Big Brother fame, handed the title to 20-year-old Lisa Lazarus from Swansea.

Miss Burt said the atmosphere between the finalists was very positive and everyone was lovely.

Her mum, step-dad, friend and brother were in London to cheer her on.

She said: “It was amazing, people cheered and screamed.”

Miss Burt has held several titles including Miss Ashford and was a finalist for Miss England.
