Ashford's Lisa Dobriskey believes adopting a mind-over-matter approach to the London 2012 Olympics will be key to her upgrading her fourth to first in the capital next year.

The 27-year-old, pictured, was part of a British athletics team that largely flattered to deceive at the Beijing Games in 2008 with only four returning to the UK with medals.

Dobriskey finished an agonising fourth in the 1,500m final before going some way to making up for it at the World Championships in 2009.

She claimed silver in Berlin only to drop back down to fourth at the European Championships in Spain last year while being ruled out of the Commonwealth Games through injury.

Dobriskey will pit her wits against the world again this year in Dageu and, with less than 500 days to go until 2012, is adamant tactics and not fitness will see her return to the podium.

Dobriskey said: "The 1,500m is such a tactical event and it is not necessarily about being in the best physical shape but about making the right decisions at the right times.

"For that you need to sharpen your mind. One of the challenges of the 1,500m is that a lot of the races on the circuit have pacemakers whereas in championship races there is none of that."

Dobriskey revealed last year she was considering running the 800m as well as the 1,500m at 2012 and was even due to do both at the Commonwealth Games.

However Dobriskey, who set a new 800m personal best at London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace last year, now insists that will not be the case in 2012.

"I was going to run the 800m in Delhi but I’m not trying to do a Kelly Holmes," she added: "I’m more of an endurance runner."
