Steve Lovell says all it could take to launch the winning run which would keep Ashford Town in the Ryman League is a single stroke of luck.

The Nuts and Bolts go into Saturday's Division 1 South match at Dulwich Hamlet on a 14-game run without a win, notching just six points in that time.

Ashford’s recent run of four games undefeated came to an end with a 4-1 home defeat against Fleet last Wednesday and Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Walton & Hersham at Homelands.

Town’s last league win came on October 14 but despite games running-out, Lovell said he is sure his players have it in them to go on a surge.

Lovell (pictured) said: "I don’t look at the bad records, I just want to focus on the good ones. Last season we went on a 13-game unbeaten run in which we won eight or nine games and I’d love to do it again.

"I feel sorry for the boys. They are trying so hard. I know that if they just got one win then they would go on a run."

Walton’s opening goal on Saturday arrived when goalkeeper Scott Chalmers-Stevens’ clearance rebounded into the net off the back of a striker.

Lovell said: "The way things are going, if it was us it would have hit our man and then hit the corner flag.

"The spirit is still there, we just need one break, a little bit of luck, to take a chance to get into the lead and hold onto it."

Lovell again bemoaned the selection problems which have blighted Town’s season.

He said: "It is all about having players to pick and choose. It seems players are picking up little knocks, missing a game or two, coming back and then someone else goes down.

"It is frustrating to get people back from injury and then they disappear. It is bad luck but it’s football."

For the game at Dulwich Hamlet Lee Hockey (broken nose), Danny Lye and Laurence Harvey (both hamstring) and Toby Ashmore (knee) could all return.
