Ashford boss Steve Lovell is hoping to have two signings in place before the weekend and more could follow.

The Nuts and Bolts boss wants his transfer business concluded before the team return to pre-season training in early July and is eyeing reinforcements in all positions.

Lovell (pictured) said: "We’re looking across the board. We’re looking at two players this week – a defender and a forward – and then later a goalkeeper and a midfielder.

"We had a decent squad last season when they were all fit but when the injuries came, we didn’t have enough numbers.

"We needed to bring in a few experienced people who have played at this level or above to help out the youngsters."

Lovell has already signed Dartford’s former captain Adam Flanagan and is hoping for quick decisions from his other transfer targets.

He added: "We start training on July 10 and by then I want to have the squad assembled which will take us through the season. The sooner I have that done the better.

"There is work to be done as there is still a lot of negotiating to do. I don’t want players touting themselves to people the whole of the summer. If they can’t make their mind up, then we’ll go elsewhere and get someone in who wants to be here.

"We want to have a go at the league this season and it’s important that we do get two or three more players in."
