Ashford's Joe Lakin goes over for the try, which Jonathan Murray converted, to earn Ashford their draw.

Ashford Rugby Club had to come from behind late on to snatch a 19-19 draw against Vigo in Kent 1 on Saturday.

The scoring started early when Jonathan Murray kicked a
first-minute penalty after Vigo were caught offside.

However, the home side suffered a shock reverse on six minutes when Vigo’s scrum drove Ashford over the goal line for their No.8 to score the opening try.

Ashford recovered the lead when Murray knocked over a 10th minute penalty and he extended the lead to 9-5 on the half hour with a third successful kick.

It was not until eight minutes into the second half that Vigo turned the ball over in the Ashford 22 and scored a converted try.

A minute later, the Ashford restart kick was cleanly caught by Vigo and spread to the wing where the Ashford defence was outpaced and the visitors were 19-9 ahead after another successful conversion.

Ashford reorganised their team with replacements coming into the second and back rows of the scrum and Murray closed the deficit to seven points on 63 minutes with his fourth penalty.

Ashford then began applying pressure which told when centre Joe Lakin crashed over near the posts on 78 minutes and the conversion by Murray levelled the scores in a game the home side could have won, had it
not been for lapses in concentration.

Ashford are away to Erith in Kent 1 on Saturday.
